Description
This Mikuni TM40 Pumper single carburetor conversion kit is designed specifically for early twin-shock kick-start Yamaha SRX600 models. Before proceeding, please ensure that your framework matches the box section twin shock design shown in the pictures, and that your cylinder head features two ports of the same size. While these kits deliver outstanding performance, they do require a small modification to the underside of your gas tank. A skilled individual can easily create the necessary indentation using a hammer to provide clearance for the carburetor and throttle mechanism without issue. The boost in performance far exceeds any minor inconvenience this hidden change may cause.
For those on a tighter budget, this kit is also available with the TM38 or higher performance TM42 pumper carb options.
The TM40 Pumper has established itself as an exceptional upgrade for all brands in the 600cc and larger big thumper market. Due to limited space (less than 30mm between the back of the carb and the plastic box), this carb isn't compatible with the stock air-box and will require a POD filter, which can be sourced separately (the carb intake spigot diameter is 65mm). You can modify the front of the OEM air-box for the POD filter if you prefer to keep it. To ensure adequate filter area to meet the carb's requirements, you should conduct wide-open throttle runs with the filter on and off. This process will also help you determine the best main jet options included in the kit.
Included with your purchase are the Mikuni TM40-6 carburetor, a cast two-in-one manifold along with mounting hardware, a durable rubber engine mounting flange to reduce heat transfer, a 1/4 turn quick-action throttle, and a nylon lined push/pull cable set. Note that this will necessitate repositioning your switch block 10-15mm up the handlebars for proper fitment, as the OEM cables won’t align and the original throttle doesn’t fully open the 42’s throttle valve. Additionally, a 310mm choke cable with a universal mounting bracket is provided, along with spare jets for fine-tuning.
Remember that factors such as climate, altitude, fuel density, cam, exhaust, and cylinder head porting will influence your final tuning. That's why we've supplied a range of jets, allowing you to adjust for various conditions around the globe.
Get ready to experience remarkable throttle response, acceleration, and overall performance!
