Description
Getting that older 70’s custom look whilst going even faster has never been so easy, say goodbye to hard starting, hesitations and flatspots. This TM38 Mikuni rFlatslide carb, will fix all your old stock carb issues and look great. Even bigger performance improvements can be gained using our TM40 or TM42 Pumper kits.
The kit includes: A pre-jetted TM38 Mikuni Carburetor. A Mikunioz designed cast two into one manifold with an enlarged mid manifold plenum area to better facilitate the fuel mixture between the cylinders. To allow for a wider manifold with better holding grip whilst still isolating the heat from the fuel delivery system, the OEM carb rubber mounting flanges are replaced with 2x shorter Mikuni heavy duty flanges designed and made for the Harley market. A 3rd heavy duty rubber flange is supplied for the manifold to Carb connection. A basic Oval POD type air filter is included at no cost to either supply budget filtration or make do if waiting to fabricate or mate up your own custom filter assembly. A nylon lined throttle cable to connect to your stock throttle. This cable measures 950mm long with a low profile 90 degree carb top fitting. As many of these bikes are now custom modified, if you do advise at the time of ordering that you require a different end fitting to suit another throttle type or length (1050mm max reducing to any shorter length requested) we can in most cases do the changes at no cost. This only applies to a request at the time of purchase and also do be aware that some aftermarket throttles may not manage to fully open the slides on these carbs where generally some throttle tube modification will remedy this. Hardware includes all bolts, washers and 1x 4mm Vacuum hose tail requiring a 5/32″ hole drilled to locate in a location of your choosing if required. No fuel or vacuum lines are provided.
No Air-filter support system is provided where if installing a heavier custom unit, the fabrication of a bracket or brackets may be required. You will notice that this VM carb does have a very long filter side spigot which if wanting to pull the filter closer back into the motor, can be shortened by up to 20mm. If doing so you must carefully mask off the carb and vacuum away any filings when finished.
The choke is usually never needed in most climates. Normally just start, feather the throttle for 15 seconds or so and you’re right to go.
The jets to make this carb operate on Yamaha XV models have been fitted and there are spares for fine tuning the main jet circuit doing WOT tests. Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason, we have included what we have found to be a range of fuels.
