Description
The kit includes a Mikuni HSR42mm Carburetor with choke cable bracket, a specially designed Mikuni 1/2″ drop down manifold, a heavy duty manifold to carb rubber mounting flange, some jets for tuning, plus an air-cleaner adapter for mounting any Harley Davidson Keihin CV or S&S shorty air-cleaner. This Mikuni HSR42 Easy Kit suits all Harley Davidson Ironhead XL 1000cc Sportsters and will fit Shovelhead models requiring mods for rockerbox oil line clearance. If wishing to fit this cheaper carb option to a Shovelhead engine, you will need to independently purchase two 90 degree chrome fittings and a 12-14″ braided brake line for diverting inwards the OEM rocker oil line to allow for throttle cable bracket clearance.
Performance increases of up to 25% can be expected when replacing these two carbs with an even way more impressive gain if replacing an old butterfly type Harley Davidson Keihin or Bendix carburetor.
The purchaser will be required to buy a pair of 89-95 OEM type Harley Davidson throttle cables available here, unless replacing a Keihin CV or later model S&S shorty carb where the existing cables will fit. Earlier models fitted with pull only cables will need to buy one of our OEM replacement push/pull throttles where if also using the O-ring seal type manifold will need to be, for use with this manifold, upgraded to the later system with the purchase of a pair of band type seals and matching clamps.
All filters must be solidly mounted back to the rocker boxes as this Evo/TC88 filter adapter only sits in place with an O-ring seal, relying on the brackets to pull it back and retain firmly in place. There is no form of air-cleaner mounting bracket system included in this kit as generally depending on what carb you are removing and or what type of air-cleaner you will be installing, you could expect to either use some or all of your existing brackets or otherwise require the fabrication of a complete custom made arrangement. For the fitment of some versions of the S&S Shorty air-cleaner to a Mikuni HSR carburetor, the breather on the backing plate may need to have some material removed with some others requiring material to be ground off the outer edge of the S&S backing plate to allow for clearance giving total unimpeded movement of the return arm on the carburetor.
